Boykins Lodges History
The History of Freemasonry in Boykins, Virginia is a play in three Acts:

The first Lodge in Boykins, Virginia was Boykins Lodge No. 64, chartered December 11, 1877. It was organized at Boykins Depot, a small town established in 1836. In 1883 Boykins Depot was renamed Boykins.
It is significant that the men of Boykins Lodge No. 64 were among those who helped establish the Boykins Baptist Church in 1871 and the Boykins Methodist Church in 1883.
The charter for Boykins Lodge No. 64 was returned to the Grand Lodge in 1894 and the Lodge ceased to exist at that time.

Boykins Lodge No. 287 (1904-1938)

Masonry again flourished in Boykins in 1904 with the formation of a Lodge working under dispensation. This Lodge received its charter and also the number 287 on February 16, 1905.
Boykins Lodge No. 287 functioned until 1938, with membership ranging from 21 to 47. The charter for this Lodge was returned to the Grand Lodge in 1939 due to the hardships inflicted upon the people of the United States during this time.

Boykins Lodge was rechartered in 1953, still maintaining its former number, 287.
